Specifying the Criteria for Selection to the Coaching Development Courses
We set the proper criteria for the training of coaches since an open admission policy was not in the best interest of our objective to develop players at higher minimum levels than current systems allowed in the country.
Trained coaches without defined roles in football development would not further these objectives. Further discussions still need to take place regarding the admission of neighbouring countries’ coaches since we have received several enquiries for participation in our courses from our sister federations in other parts of Africa.
A sensible admissions policy had the effect of making the training programme a self-sustaining enterprise since coaching is seen as a bona fide career option in the world of football. Individuals can choose the career path, and like any other career choice, participation becomes an individual choice.
The creation of job opportunities for the graduates of the training programme could serve as an incentive to choose coaching as a career. We possess the ability to create those incentives by legislating minimum coaching standards for the country.
The Coaching Development Programme is therefore seen as a self-sustaining enterprise since people would surely be willing to pay for career training.
