Banyana Banyana fever is running high in the Northern Cape city of Upington, as the Senior National Women’s Team prepares to take on Namibia in an international friendly fixture at the Danie Kuys Stadium on Saturday, 19 March 2011.
Due to the sweltering heat often experienced in Upington, the match is set for a 17h00 kickoff.
The match was moved to Upington from Kimberley, with the Northern Cape Provincial Government’s Department of Sport, Arts and Culture pledging their support to allow top quality football to be experienced in other areas of the province after Kimberley played host to last year’s ’50 days before the 2010 FIFA World Cup’ festivities.
The fixture forms part of Banyana Banyana’s build-up towards hosting Tunisia in an Olympic Qualifier in Durban on Saturday, 2 April 2011, before playing the return leg against the North African side in Tunisia two weeks later.
The stadium gates will open at 13h00 on match day, with entrance free of charge to fans in possession of match tickets obtainable in Upington from Thursday, 17 March 2011.
The day’s programme will include the Northern Cape leg of the Sasol League Road Show. This is where the Banyana Banyana coaches will be conducting a coaches workshop from 12h00 to 13h00 with the coaches from the Sasol League clubs in the province. After the workshop, the top talent in the Northern Cape will be on display when the Northern Cape Invitation A stream line up takes on the Northern Cape Invitation B stream line up at 14h00.
From this match, the Banyana Banyana coaches will look to identify talent to increase the pool of players available for possible future call-ups to national camps.
