Luvhengo names squad for Nigeria

2012-09-14

SA U20 coach - Solly LuvhnegoThe South African National Under 20 team, Amajita head coach Solly Luvhengo has named a 22-man squad to play against Nigeria in the African Youth Championship qualifier.

Luvhengo says he is confident ahead of the first leg match of the AYC qualifier against reigning champions Nigeria that is scheduled to take place at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday, 21 September 2012.

Defending Champions Nigeria, defeated Tanzania 4-1 on aggregate having won 2-0 and 2-1 home and away to book a date with Amajita.

Luvhengo and his charges are expected to report for camp on Sunday, 16 September 2012 to start preparing for what promises to be a tricky encounter against the West Africans.

As part of their preparations for this huge task, Amajita played and defeated Botswana in two international friendly matches, scoring eight goals without conceding a goal.

A confident Luvhengo says while the match against Nigeria is a tough assignment, he foresees nothing extraordinary if the team maintains the same focus and execute their task as per instructions.

“We need the same kind of commitment, focus and passion as shown in the matches against Congo and Botswana. If we can manage to maintain this consistency, then we are destined for greatness,” said Luvhengo.

"Nigeria is a very strong team but so are we; we will treat them with the respect they deserve as we have done in the past with our previous opponents but once we take the field, we will compete without fear, “added Luvhengo.

The last time Amajita and Nigeria met was during the 8 Nations International tournament which took place in Cape Town in May where the South Africans emerged 1-0 winners.
