SAFA Level 3 coaches graduate

SAFA LogoA host of several coaches will be graduating on Tuesday, 17 July 2012 following their completion of the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) Level 3 Pro Licence.

The course ended last month (13 June) and all this time the examination papers were being marked.
The course started with the first phase six months ago (16 January), and included the following components:


Phases of the Level 3 Pro-Licence coaching course:

Phase 1 16 - 29 January 2012
Tactical training and Modern Match Analysis

Phase 2 6 - 15 February 2012
Modern Match Analysis

Phase 3 27 Feb - 7 March 2012
Physical training and Sports Science

Phase 4 10 - 19 April 2012
Psychology and football training (Mental skill training)

Phase 5 5 - 10 May 2012
Pedagogic - teaching as an instructor, Youth Development and technical training

Phase 6 21 - 30 May 2012
Integration of all different coaching modules

Phase 7 4 - 13 June 2012
Examination and Closure

The SAFA Level 3 Pro-Licence coaching course is the highest coaching qualification offered in South Africa. It was conducted over a period of seventy days (70 days) in seven phases made up of different modules covering a variety of topics.

Some of the participants included Allan Freeze (Platinum Stars); Augustine Makalakalane (North West University); Anna Monate (SA Under 17 Girls); Themba Ngwenya (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Ian Palmer (formerly with Maritzburg United).

This is the second group to attend this high-level course. The first one took place last year.

There will be interview and photo opportunities for the media.

Meanwhile 42 former professional players received their attendance certificates for the B Licence coaching course that ended on Friday, 13 July 2012.

The participants, from PSL clubs, Schools and women’s football, will return for their graduation certificates in due course for those who have passed.

The course was conducted by the South African Football Association (SAFA) in conjunction with CAF and was aimed at former professional players who are interested in getting into the coaching field or furthering their coaching qualifications.

The B Licence is equivalent to the SAFA Level 1 coaching qualification.
The course was done in two phases:

Phase One:   28 May - 01 June and 04 June - 08 June
Phase Two:   02 July - 06 July and 09 July - 13 July

Some of the participants include Sam Magalefa, Clint Sephadi, Brian Sebapole (all formerly Jomo Cosmos); Arthur Zwane (Kaizer Chiefs); Goodman Mazibuko and Maimane Phiri (all formerly Moroka Swallows); Simphiwe Dludlu and Fikile Sithole (formerly with Banyana Banyana), Malose Chokoe (Baroka FC); Fees Moloi (African Warriors) and Eric September.
