Amajita In Last 16
03 October 2009
Amajita, the South African National Under 20 Team made history today when they booked their place in the last 16 with a thoroughly deserved 2-0 win over Honduras.
Amajita's first goal came in the 31st minute when Andile Jali unleashed a powerful shot past the Honduras goalkeeper, Francisco Reyes.
Sibusiso Khumalo of Moroka Swallows then made the score 2-0 in South Africa's favour in the 46th minute and secured a win.
Coach Serame Letsoaka says he is happy with a win but would have been much happier if the team had scored more goals considering the fact that the team created a lot of goal-scoring opportunities.
“We have an opportunity going forward to the next round, it has not been an easy road for us, we had ups and downs drawing in our first match against UAE, losing to Hungary and today we had a much better performance, we are picking up momentum and anything can happen in the knockout stage so we will always remain positive. I am happy with a win but believe we should have scored more goals, at least four goals. I would like to take this opportunity to say hard luck to Honduras as they put up a very good fight,” said Letsoaka.
In another Group F match, Hungary beat UAE 2-0 to top the group.
