Amajita Bow Out Of The World Cup
03 October 2009
The South African National Under 20 Team Coach Serame Letsoaka says he is proud of Amajita's performance after being knocked out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009.
Amajita lost 2-1 to their African counterparts Ghana today at the Ismailia Stadium during their last 16 match.
South Africa was the first to score in the 58th minute when Kermit Erasmus scored his third goal of the tournament when he received a perfect long pass from Kamohelo Mokotjo; who was playing his first match in the tournament and converted after dribbling past the Ghanaian goalkeeper Daniel Agyei and gave Amajita the lead.
Ghana equalised in the 66th minute from a Andre Ayew header against the run of play to force the match into extra time and Dominic Adiyiah of Norway's Fredrikstad FC scored Ghana's second goal in the 99th minute to make the final score 2-1 in Ghana's favour.
“I would like to congratulate Ghana on their win to advance to the quarter-finals, they played very well. We had a very good first half but then in the second half we played periodically, sometimes we played well and other times we were just not there. The Ghanaians used their opportunities and showed dominance after scoring their first goal. We on the other hand deflated after scoring our goal and changed the way we played and that disturbed our game. But having said that i am very proud of the boy's performance today despite the fact that we have been eliminated, we've had a good experience and we value that very much,” said Letsoaka.
Coach Letsoaka also said Ghana has the all qualities to make it to the finals of the tournament, “One of Ghana's strengths is their fitness level and that physical conditioning could be the edge that takes them all the way,” added Letsoaka. |
